    Questions for Discussion:

What similar situations have occurred in your congregation?
Previous church – Minister pushed out by a small secretive group. Minister was on sabbatical and Board President would not allow Board Members to take action due to language in the Ministers contract.
    –How did your congregation respond?
Members not part of the “Ouster Group” felt betrayed and alienated when issue came out.
Minister took a negotiated settlement, 1/3 of the parishioners left the church, and the entire Board resigned with the exception of one member. I was one of the persons who resigned and I also gave up my membership.
    –How might you respond differently?
Contract be dammed, the “Ouster Group” continued to hold secret meetings and make plans, I should have more aggressively informed the remaining Congregation what was going on.
Which roles that the characters play often show up in your congregation?
All roles are represented by my current church. They all have something to contribute to our growth and mission.
–What role do you usually take?
    Mediator.
–Are any of these roles explicitly assigned in your congregation?
    Of course!
What can you do in anxious situations to be a better leader in your congregation?
    Listen but don’t immediately react.
